Directions
The cottage is located at the top of Loch Fyne, opposite Inveraray. Click on the map opposite. Full detailed directions will be given 2 weeks before you arrive.
Though most will travel by car, an increasing number now choose to fly or use the train.
Travel is somewhat easier than it was in 1953 when the journey could take many days. (See pictures opposite!) Then, there were no motorways, and one sometimes encountered the occasional cow and her calf!
By Car
Today, driving to the cottage on Loch Fyne is easy.
With the new road up Loch Lomond, the cottage is only an hour away from Glasgow.
Although most will drive up Loch Lomond, it is also possible to catch a car ferry from Greenock/Gourock to Dunoon (£12-15). Then drive via Loch Eck to Strachur and on to St Catherine’s (25 miles from Dunoon).
Train
The cottage is remote so we think that at least one person in your party should have a car, but for those joining friends already at Tighcladich, travel by train is an attractive option. From the South, the overnight sleeper from London departs at 2115 and arrives in Arrochar at 0706. A local taxi can then bring you to the cottage. Alternatively, most will travel to Glasgow Central where friends will pick them up. Car parking at the station is easy as parking is avaible in the main concourse alongside the platforms.
The Scotrail sleeper website is useful for overnight info.
Air
Increasingly, especially for short duration lets, people are choosing to fly/drive. Glasgow has a well supported airport with frequent flights from London, the SW of the UK, Southern Spain, Amsterdam, Belfast, Berlin, Copenhagen, Dublin, Geneva, the Midlands, Paris and even Canada, to name but a few. See airports to/from Glasgow
By car the cottage is just over 1 hr from the airport and hiring a car is easy. See car hire
Rates are approximately £120 per week.
